Duo Nabbed After Woman Allegedly Assault In Springfield

Two Western Massachusetts men were arrested on alleged assault and drug charges after a woman was assaulted and a gun pointed at her face.

The incident took in Hampden County in Springfield around 10:15 a.m., Saturday, April 2.

The two men, Manuel Carrasquill, age 46, and Roberto Martinez-Colon, age 41, both of Springfield, were arrested after police received information that a woman was assaulted and had a gun pointed at her face on the 700 block of Worthington Street, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police.

Officers located Carrasquillo and recovered approximately 15 bags of heroin, Walsh said.

A review of video in the area relayed information to officers that Carrasquillo handed a backpack to another suspect after the assault, Walsh said.

A short time later, Martinez-Colon was located with the backpack on the 1100 block of Worthington St., Walsh said.

A loaded high-capacity firearm was found inside the backpack, he added.

Both Martinez-Colon and Carrasquillo were placed under arrest.

Carrasquillo was charged with:

  • Carrying a high capacity firearm without an LTC
  • Carrying a loaded high capacity firearm without an LTC
  • Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Improper storage of a firearm
  • Unlawful transfer of a firearm
  • Assault by means of a dangerous weapon 
  • Assault & battery
  • Distribution of a Class A drug
  • Possession with the intent to distribute a Class A drug

Martinez-Colon was charged with carrying a high capacity firearm without a license and carrying a loaded high capacity firearm with a license.
